This is the Beat the Clock and Help Beat Cancer Blog – THE BEAT.
Patt Baenen-Tapscott is a 8+ year breast cancer survivor. Since her recovery, she has been committed to supporting others who are fighting against this disease and to raising money to find a cure. Each year she (and dozens of her passionate volunteers) host events with all proceeds going directly to the Livestrong Foundation and to the Canary Foundation. Beat the Clock is also involved in our sister series, the Low Key Hillclimbs, and donates the proceeds from the LKHC series to the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST).
What Beat the Clock does:
Now in its 10th season, BTC raises money and awareness to fight cancer.
- Time Trial Series – From January to June, four time trial events are hosted on Cañada Road in Woodside. Beginner and pro cyclists alike come out to test their skills against the clock on a 10-mile course, which is a fun chance to train and improve skills. Local Olympians as well as district and national champions have been known to frequent (and volunteer) for these events.
- Raffle – raffle tickets are sold for $5 each the entire season. Tickets can be purchased online when you register or at events. The drawing is held after the final time trial. Leader Bikes has donated the grand prize since the series started. Voler Team Apparel has also donating gift certificates for the fine cycling apparel. We are always looking for more items to raffle.
How to get involved:
BTC is always open and welcome to new participants, volunteers, sponsors, and donations. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring, contact Patt Baenen-Tapscott at 650-851-7621 or email us.
